Appearance: One of the last of his kind, Reyson is strikingly beautiful, slim, delicate and graceful. His body is long and slender, his wrists and ankles thin and fragile, and he is very light. His face is gentle but grim, with pale, flashing green eyes and a strong, taut mouth. Reyson's hair is very long, a pale, pale blonde. He wears a white tunic and robe, worked through with silver filigree, which branches out like a tree against his breast. He wears knee-high boots and leather gauntlets, both pale green, and also finely detailed. Around his head he wears a green and silver woven circlet.

Aside from his beauty and regal, elegant attire, Reyson's most eye-catching characteristic is his wings. Great and white, fully feathered, they are strong and large, their peaks curving high over his head, their tips nearly brushing his ankles. Normally he keeps them folded, but when opened they stretch very wide.

Personality: Despite his fine looks and regal standing, Reyson is stubborn, willful, and somewhat harsh. Forever damaged by an event twenty years previous, he is suspicious, introverted, and cautious. He does not trust easily, and generally keeps others at arms' length. Although he is very weak by nature, he has a deliberate, domineering personality who has a sharp tongue. He does not like his weaknesses being pointed out, and does all he can to be helpful, to prove his worth to those around him.

And yet, he is a gentle, kind creature beneath the sharp spines. Before the loss of his people, Reyson was a sweet and helpful youth, naive and always willing to lend a hand, sumberged in peace and the culture of his people. And although he is now jaded and cynical, his heart is golden, and his caustic words are, for the most part, only a protective front. He warms up easily to those who respect and understand him.

Abilities: Herons are very weak, and generally unable to protect themselves in combative situations, but they are not without several helpful abilities. They cannot fight, but they can fly -- far and fast and with impressive agility; generally they can escape most attackers. They are also practiced healers and workers of medicine, and they are learned in the art of the 'galdrar'. A 'galdr' is a song ( there are several types ) that only herons can manipulate. These songs have several restorative and supportive properties -- granting the listeners a variety of positive fortifications, including increased speed and agility, quicker thought, and, of course, healing.

Also, any member of the laguz peoples, herons included, can shift forms, human-to-bird, or bird-to-human, at will. They are also fiercely empathetic. They can feel the voices of the world around them, and the anxiety of others, and are thusly affected by tense, conflicting surroundings. When all is peaceful, they are able to read the thoughts of those around them.

Within Manhattan, Reyson, like everyone else, will of course be limited. He will still be able to fly, considering the wings on his back are fully-functional. He will be able to shift back and forth from human to bird, but it will be difficult for him -- and there may be times where he cannot shift back for a prolonged amount of time. His healing skills, as well as the effects of his galdr, will also be affected, their strengths fluctuating erratically.

Weaknesses: Reyson's body is definitely his worst weakness. Herons like himself are very fragile and frail, and not at all suited for fighting. They do not know how to use weapons, and generally do not wish to learn now -- they much prefer to flee from dangerous situations.

Aside from his fragility, Reyson is also somewhat naive and easily tricked, despite his suspicions. Those he trusts he trusts fully and without worry -- but if he is betrayed, he does not forget.

Manhattanite or outsider? Outsider.

History: For the majority of Reyson's life, he lived in peace and happiness. A prince of his people, he was treated well, pampered and loved, well-educated and spoiled. He had several siblings, both younger and older, and he lived comfortably in the Serenes forest with his family and people. All of that changed, however, twenty-three years ago. The human ( 'beorc' ) peoples of the nation of Begnion, in which Serenes forest grew, massacred the herons in a blaze of fire. Their leader had been killed, and untrue rumor pointed to the herons as the culprits. This of course was impossible -- the heron clan were a peaceful people who knew nothing of combat -- but the humans were bereaved and wild, needing someone to blame. It was the herons that paid for the loss of their apostle.

After the mass slaughter, the herons were all but extinct. Unable to defend themselves, they were helpless beneath the weapons of the people of Begnion; they were massacred, and their forest was burned. Reyson was one of the very few survivors, his family and siblings murdered alongside the rest of his people. With his father, he sought refuge in Phoenices -- the land of the hawk people, fellow laguz. Tibarn, the king of hawks, personally saw to his care, and kept him safely protected under wing for the next twenty years.

Though two decades had passed, Reyson was unable to forget his loss, the pain and loneliness of losing his family and people was forever burned into him. Vindictive and distrustful, he was warped from the peaceful creature he had once been, into the sharp, suspicious heron that he is now. Before being dumped in Manhattan, Reyson was involved in a war that swept the entire continent. He located his sister Lean, whom he had thought dead, and became involved with the humans. With his galdr, and friend-hawks at his side, he was a great help to the Crimean army, helping them to liberate their country from the oppressive forces of Daien.

Three years later, another war began. Investigating the Serenes Massacre, the laguz sent a messenger to Begnion. The senators would have none of it. They killed the messenger, sparking a fierce and bloody war that would soon sweep the entire continent. Battle after battle dragged on, and soon, unable to sleep any further, the goddess of chaos, Yune, was awakened. Her counterpart, Ashera, the goddess of order, was subsequently awakened; furious with the laguz and beorc, she cast down her judgement. All but a select few were turned to stone, and Ashera locked herself away in her tower, building her forces in preparation for her final judgement.

Traveling with the last dregs of their army, Reyson fought alongside his friends and allies, bolstering them with his galdr as they traveled towards the tower. Ashera was overcome, and the war ended.

Tellius, saved, began to pull itself together. The bird tribes unified under one king, and Reyson immersed himself in politics. Serenes was ceded back to his people, and together with the other birds, as well as his father and two siblings, he returned to the home he had been forced to abandon twenty years ago.

Peacetime was difficult but wonderful. Until Manhattan.
